Trying to Make Sense of the Non-Sensical

Call me naive, but in our country's jubilant reactions to the announcement of Osama Bin Laden's death, are we not made more and more evil like the hatred we've fought so hard to eliminate?  I believe in justice, and I believe that this atrocious leader was brought to justice.  But parties, riots and dancing in the streets?  This isn't the end of terror and it most certainly isn't the end of bigotry in our world.  Let's focus our energy on the servicemen and women who responded to the call of duty, and recall this timeless and most appropriate commentary for Martin Luther King, Jr:
I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate, adding deeper darkness to a night that is already void of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that. -MLK

sadly i think many americans use any excuse to "celebrate" or - drink and "riot". i feel the same way about memorial day - it has become a national bbq and beer day! there is nothing wrong with bbq and beers, but we overlook the meaning of the day.

i think for some people, their reaction of relief and justice and camaraderie turned into the natural american reaction to drink beers and toast. i kinda get that.....i am sure there was a lot of mixed emotions and reactions between grief and relief - i for one didn't know "how" to feel, but, i admit,i felt good about it, and i don't think i am a bad person for that?....

i'd like to think there was only a small minority of people who were actually celebrating the killing itself. it was an act of war, that unfortunately, in the circumstances, had to happen. i think.....

nothing could make anything "right" about any of this. i totally understand the discomfort in watching celebrations.... try not to lose faith in the majority of the good :)

aaaaaaand. i soooo owe you a long email response, my apologies. hugs to you my friend! xo
